Current Event

The stimulus package, The breakdown:

After watching this video from CNN news, I not only learned what the bill is being broken down into but I also added this news story as a source for my persuasive essay :). The video breaks the apportioned spending into 3 categories on a pie chart. I do not remember the exact numbers of each, but one section was devoted to direct aid, such as food stamps and wealthfare, another section to tax reliefs, such as the 400$ worker credit, and the last to discretionary spending, which involves money being spent on whatever money needs to be spent on, the reporter gave the example of alternative-energy investment.

I believe that there are several flaws in the plan of spending this money. First of all, the part where money is being spent on direct aid: How can investing in a person who does not give anything back to society, like the homeless or the imprisoned, help our economy? It does not stimulate anything into being moved. My second complaint, why is only 400$ dollars being credited to workers? That amount of money is not large enough to help the citizens with their amassed debts. Not nearly enough people will take that credit and spend it on what could really help the economy. I could EASILY go on, but then I would just be writing a speech about it, which I really need to get started on doing :(
